Library Francois Mitterrand

Located in the 13th arrondissement, the Library Francois Mitterrand is also called the Big Library, characterized by its 4 angular towers of 79 meters high in the shape of 4 open books. Its 60000 m² esplanade situates in the center of the Library with an underground garden of 12000m². Visible from the low levels of the Library, this garden is composed of pine tress of the Forest of Bord, from the region of Francois Mitterrand, however, it is not accessible for the public.
A masterpiece of Dominique Perrault, this building is the principal site of the National Library of France, facing the passage Simone de Beauvoir. The Library receives in 2006 the 2 globes of Coronelli.
In December 2007, one of the towers by the River Seine was put on a red X on the occasion of the exhibition “L’Enfer de la bibliotheque” for nearly 4 months.
